OTR Company and Lease Drivers
OTR drivers at Hylas Companion typically run 2–3 weeks out and reset for 2–4 days at home. The cycle is not randomized — it's established during the first call with your recruiter based on your domicile and the lane you're matched to. Drivers in the Chicago–Atlanta–Dallas triangle generally see tighter cycles (closer to 2 weeks out, 2 days home) due to lane consistency. Drivers in cross-country dedicated lanes may run 3 weeks out with 3–4 days home. This should be confirmed per program before orientation.
Home time is defined as time at your home — not at a truck stop within 200 miles of your home. If a carrier is quoting home time that includes extended layovers near your city, ask specifically: how many nights in my own bed per cycle? That's the number that matters.
Regional Drivers
Regional drivers at Hylas Companion are home most weekends. The standard regional schedule is Monday through Friday with Saturday delivery completion and a Friday evening or Saturday morning return. Some regional programs run a 5-day cycle with 2 nights home; others run a 7-day cycle with 2 full days home. Your recruiter specifies which cycle applies to the program you're placed in. Regional drivers generally stay within a 1,000–1,200 mile radius of their domicile, which means the lanes are predictable.
Dedicated Drivers
Dedicated positions at Hylas Companion run fixed accounts — Walmart, Kroger, Target, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar among others. Home time for dedicated drivers depends on the account but is typically 2–3 days off per week on a rolling schedule, or weekends home for accounts that follow a Monday–Friday freight pattern. Dedicated is the most home-time-consistent position in trucking — the account doesn't change, so the schedule doesn't change.
Local W2 Drivers
Local drivers are home daily. Local positions at Hylas Companion are typically city-specific — Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, Dallas, Atlanta among others — and run a standard 10–12 hour shift with daily home return. Pay for local W2 positions is hourly or weekly salary, typically $1,200–$2,500/week depending on market and freight type.
What 'Flexible Home Time' Actually Means
At Hylas Companion, flexible home time means you can request extended reset periods (longer home time) with advance notice, and the carrier works to accommodate it around freight demand. It also means that if you have a family event or personal commitment, your recruiter can be contacted directly to flag the request — rather than it disappearing into a dispatch system. It does not mean you can go home whenever you want with no notice. That's not how trucking works at any carrier. What it does mean is that your home time expectations are documented, your recruiter holds the carrier accountable to them, and if they're consistently not being honored, we help resolve it.
The Bottom Line
Home time varies by program, not by carrier branding. The most important thing you can do before accepting any position is ask your recruiter: give me the exact home time cycle for this specific program, how often it's honored, and what the process is when it isn't. If a recruiter can't answer that specifically, that's important information.
